Research Academy for Faculty & Postdoctoral Fellows

The Research Academy for Faculty & Postdoctoral Fellows has been actively organizing a series of initiatives with the primary goal of fostering, energizing and promoting the research activity at the UPRM. We recognize that the path to a competitive University is measured by its academic success and by the impact that its research has on the community and society at large. We count with the reinforcement of the Deanery of Academic Affairs, the Center of Investigation and Development (CID), the Proposals Development Unit (PDU), and the four academic faculties.

Goal

The main purpose of the Research Academy for Faculty & Postdoctoral Fellows is that every member acquires the necessary skills to help them compete with the investigative and educative state of the present days. The Research Academy consists of three fundamental initiatives:

  1. Professional Development Activities: The Academy provides a great variety of themes and formats that may include workshops about how to research effectively for funding sources, how to draft investigation proposals, panels about efficient management of a research group, techniques for the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students, and forums related to the investigative culture.
  2. Social Activities: The Research Academy includes social gatherings with the purpose of promoting and fomenting collaborations, effective communication, the discussion of ideas and bonding between investigators.
  3. Mentoring Program: This program matches the new faculty members or faculty that wish to be reinserted in the research activities of the UPRM with successful, experimented in investigation faculty. The mentor advises and directs the mentee through the reading and editing of proposals, scientific articles, course plans, and in other matters that can help the mentee to advance in his or her academic career. The mentoring process has demonstrated to create a notorious impact on mentees, because it assists faculty to be exposed to areas that benefit them professionally and that help them understand the process of funding obtention and results dissemination much more easily. We look forward that at the end of the program, the participant will acquire experience, the necessary tools and the confidence to be even more successful in research matters.

Currently, the Academy consists of 15 mentors and 17 mentees, for a grand total of 32 participants. Our main aspiration is that every year, this program grows in such a way that the benefits offered for the faculty that is interested in research grows equally to the development of the program. We recommend, specially to all of the newly hired professors, postdoctoral fellows and those who intention to become investigators, to be part of the Mentoring Program. We will be honored to count with your participation in the Research Academy.

If you are interested in collaborating with the Research Academy, please fill out the following two forms:

  1. Inscription Form: Enrollment

Once you have completed the forms, we will start the matching process to provide you with a mentor that fully meets your interests and necessities.
